Applying for a student grant for Daughter

Our Daughter is hopefully going to university this year (2011). When they work out student grants i.e,extra money my daughter may get. They ask for the parents gross earned taxaable income. My wife works part time and I am on incapacity benefit and dla benefit.
Do I have to include my benefits as earned taxable income or do we just use my wifes income. Thank you for your help.

IB is classed as taxable income, not sure about DLA. Best to include it all and send a copy of your award letters, they can sort out what's what.

    DLA isn't classed as income.

I would check with the funders. DLA is not taxable and is almost certainly disregarded, but it may still be worth declaring it as in some cases is a passport to a higher income exemption. On the other hand IB is a taxable benefit and is normally taken into account in full. But only the funder can give you a definitive answer to your question.

Not all IB is taxable, it depends on when it was first awarded, mine from 1992 is tax exempt.

According to the guidance notes you don't need to include income from DLA but you do need to include income from IB after 28 weeks of incapacity.
