I wish I had the time to search all the forums but as a full time carer I am limited to the time I can spend on the computer,I have more important things to do.
Ahh dont worry about it.. Come back - they do play nice normally.."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
It seems some who work in retail may have seen this and are now trying it on (it may have gone on for years, but I suspect it started as an internet myth). My wife went into a department store on Monday and when she checked her receipt there was £10 cashback showing that she hadn't asked for. She had done a quick mental check of what she was about to be charged, so the difference alerted her.
My wife hadn't heard of this scam until Monday, so took the 'sorry it was a geniuine mistake' apology at face value and took £10 (which the cashier was very quick to offer, rather than call a superviser to redo the transaction and correct the 'mistake'). Had I been there I would have called a manager to discuss it further.
So do check recepits as there may be chancers out there.0 -
Davey - when using a C&P machine the money comes up on the screen first so why not dispute the amount before entering the pin therefore no hassle."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

It's not a myth and it does happen. However imo if you don't pay enough attention to notice a £10+ addition to your bill you can take the hit anyway
This is one of the reasons most supermarkets ask their customers to initialise a cashback on their reciept, makes it harder for a dodgy customer to say they never asked or recieved the cashback.

If Spotted MulDun did that at the checkout with me, they would be running off to nanny and the wet nurse to wipe they face, as they put the things back on the shelf.

In a perfect World there would be no such thing as scams, but I've not found this World yet. An amount on the C&P machine is all well and good, but it doesn't actually show you all the transaction items. When I shop the receipt isn't printed until I have paid and this is the proof of what has been purchased.
It wouldn't avoid hassle either as the transaction would still be queried and a good scammer will have a plan B. Something like "I'll need a superviser to void the cashback, so it will be quicker to let me complete anyway and you take the £10 cashback" - the 'mistake' is covered, the buyer gets £10 and isn't out of pocket and the scammer is free to fish for another victim.
I was happy my wife checked the receipt after buying the goods and then queried, which is probably more than most do - it was just a pity she didn't know about the scam and could call a manager herself.
The person who tried it on with my wife failed becasue she didn't buy much and she had an idea of how much it would be - he must choose his victim better next time and target someone buying a lot of items where £10 is easier to miss.0 -
The CnP thingy at the DnD tells me how much I have wetted me sen at, and it complies with the till, otherwise I do not pay.
Now, is that bug in Elf Bowling still going to finish us all off?0
