Your egg card will not be renewed - unfair practice?

This website positively encourages consumers to ditch uncompetitive providers at a moment's notice in order to get a better deal elsewhere. Its banner includes the phrase "consumer revenge".
It runs both ways and people don't seem to like that.0 -

Move on pleeeaaasseee.
It's all been done today, I've already moved on, are you coming too?
Some posters have me down as some moaning cheapskate but they're wrong, I wanted to use the card to keep the privilege, I didn't want something for nothing, I wanted to toe the line.
All I was saying was egg's policy was to ditch customers without thought and it surprised me that not only did they want rid but they then salt the ground with a "and you can't come back for 12 months".
I can see that the belligerent aren't going to be convinced that I'm just expressing my surprise at this and don't actually want anything else so I'll keep calm and carry on.

OP What you say does make sense and I can understand why you are upset.
But what others say on here is true. Simple truth is "Egg don't want you" and you have no choice but to accept that.
My advice is don't let it upset you and move on. Life is too short and all that.
If its any consolation you have warned others who may have the Egg card and don't use it. They now know what will happen thanks to you.
Don't lose sleep, have a good new year, and go elsewhere.

Thanks Andy - I'm not going to lose any sleep over this at all - I'm not wound up by it really.
I'm probably more narked by my inability to explain myself clearly in this thread and the fact that we've gone off at a tangent a few times but again, I'll get over it, in fact, I think I am already.
Happy New Year to you too!0 -

Its not that. Its just that we disagree with you in your view that you are a loyal customer to them.I can see that the belligerent aren't going to be convinced that I'm just expressing my surprise at this and don't actually want anything else so I'll keep calm and carry on.
So, anyone that disagrees with you is belligerent?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. just act in your own self interest
choose the products that suit you best; when, inevitably they change and are not the best for you, then go elsewhere
I travel a lot and spend a lot on CCs so I
so I go for cashback credit cards and those that offer no overseas loading or special offers where I choose to shop
when they withdraw theses offers, there's no point in being annoyed just find a new 'good' deal
I like to have 5/6 credit cards, I use them all but accept that some will reduce their benefits; I just go elsewhere ..the wonders of a (reasonably ) free market economy
I want three debit cards so I have three bank accounts; just move money around each month to keep them active - a small inconvenience for the benefit I accrue
savings account? loyalty..you must be joking; just find the best that suit you and move when they no longer suit
mobile phones, insurance etc .. just accept that once a year you have another look and change if need be
buying a new TV etc... use the place I bought by last one, no way just find the best deal for now
why would I care if they are acting rationally or sensibly or reward loyalty - just be grateful that they have different criteria and you can choose what's best for you0 -
Well it's all sorted now OP, but there has been a few threads in the past months were Egg have ended customers accounts.
I put a link in the thread about Egg ditching thousands of customers a few years back, many who basically made them little or no money.
The only reason I'm still with them, is that it is my only Visa CC.
I've several cards and the only one I wouldn't like to lose is the Virgin card, because of the generous and numerous offers they seem to offer existing customers. Have to tread carefully though as the only interest they earnt from me was about £125 when I transferred my balance over in April 2009, strangely from Egg.0 -
There's a version of Egg Money Manager by the company which runs the service and which is independent of any accounts. You might consider looking for that and using it instead.0

I'm off to activate the First Direct service similar to egg, unless anyone has any words of wisdom for me and can save me a little hassle?
I have both a Egg Money and a Egg Card.
I don't use the Egg Card - its not as competitive as it once was and in November, got a letter from Egg saying that they would close the account due to it being inactive on 7 January unless I used it before the end of December... so I used it once last month..
This has happened in the past with other providers where when I haven't used a card for a long time as the reason I originally got that particular card has now passed and the card is dormant, so I often allow them to close it, unless I have a reason to keep it open or can foresee myself using in the future for some reason.
I certainly don't have any hard feelings and in some sense, those providers are in some ways doing me a favour as it saves me eventually having to close the account myself and/or eventually apply for any 'new customer' offers.
As others have said, both First Direct and ewise offer similar products to Egg Money Manager (all use the ewise platform) but if you want to keep using Egg Money Manager perhaps open a savings account with them and put £1 in.
For some reason, Egg have not given you this option and are just closing your account - perhaps its because I have a Egg Money card as well or had a savings account with a healthy balance for most of last year.
As you say, credit isn't a right and if a) they don't want you as a customer and/or b) you don't like the way they have treated you.. use another company (and occasionally use your back-up card to avoid this happening again)
In fact the only good thing about the Egg Card these days is avoiding the £5 annual fee for Quidco but I prefer to use Top CashBack atm anyway - and wouldn't apply for the card these days if I didn't already have it.
Like Clapton, I tend to go for cashback credit cards, stoozing opportunities and/or those that offer no overseas loading - and then use them for those specific purposes.
