ipod touch app download help!!

Hi,

I have been downloading the itunes free '12 days of christmas' apps.
At the moment yesterdays seems to be stuck! The icon has a quarter of the blue line and it says loading. It's been like this for ages. I don't really need the app anyway, just thought I'd download it for my daughter to play on so I just want to delete/cancel it. :o

I tried deleting it by holding the app down till it flashes but when this happens, there is no 'x' there. Also turned off and on again but still its there! :(

Any help would be really appreciated,

Thanks x

Does it say it's paused? If so tap once and it will resume. Or try going to the app via app store and hit download again?

It just says loading but if I tap it, it then says paused. The icon at the top left hand side of ipod is flashing in a circle as if it is doing something? The blue line is still in the same place!

    Thanks for your help x

which icon is that? If it's the app store it might want you to put in your password again. Am wondering if the app will still be free now as it's tomorrow now

It was very big and in two parts yesterday, took 9 minutes for first part and 15 minutes for second one - on iTunes you can see the time clicking down. It was too big really to download on the phone itself.

Big apps (like yesterday's download) should really not be downloaded directly on to the iphone/ipad - it's too slow and flaky to deal with it reliably.

Just ignore the icon on your iphone for now. Turn off the wireless on the device so it won't keep trying to download. Open up iTunes on your PC, click on the itunes Store and select downloads, and when you enter your password it will recognise that you have 'purchased' a new app and offer to download it now. Once it is done you can connect and sync your iphone and the old grey icon will be deleted and replaced with the proper app.

It's a great game, by the way, well worth the download. But if your kid is under 12 you might want to be aware there's occasional (very mild) bad language e.g. "crap".

She's already 'purchased' it at the free price, you can download it at any time for the same price, you don't need to download on the same day.

Thanks so much Poppy for you help. I've just managed to delete it. I turned off the wireless like you suggested, went back to the icon and when I pressed it down, the 'x' was there so I could delete it!

I'll think twice about downloading straight to the ipod next time :o

My daughter's 13 so would have probably been ok for her but too late now lol :rotfl:

Thankyou everybody for all you help and suggestions, you're all fab!

if you go into itunes and 'check for available downloads' then it should show up and download to your computer where you can sync it to the iphone.

even if it doesn't show up under 'available downloads' then if you find the app in the app store (Broken Sword: directors cut) and click buy, even though it says £2.99 it will pop up and say 'you have already bought this app, download again?' you click yes and it will not charge you again.

Thanks Jayme! I'll try that

Not in my experience - I've downloaded about 20 gb of stuff to both my iPad and iPhone, including films (to the iPad) and large games (to both) and never had any problems that weren't caused by a poor wifi signal. With proper wifi (eg the wifi router is in the same house as me, not next door or the other side of a hotel) it works fine, 100% of the time.
