Ntl Am I Liable

i discovered today that my home phone is not working...after checking different phones etc in the main socket ( to confirm whether there was a fault with the phone itself or the phone line ) well i rang NTL and they said they would send an angineer out to me. If it was my fault ( EG faulty phone that was my own phone or whatever ) there would be a charge of £25.
i came home tonight and on looking at the main phone line have discovered that the dog has chewed the phone line.
am i liable to pay ? can anyone advise me ?

Yes.
It would be unfair to blame and expect NTL to pay for something that was caused by your dog I'm afraid.
Normally, NTL (like BT, etc) are only liable for wiring upto and including the main/master socket. All other wiring/sockets after this are your own responsibility.
I believe the exception to this maybe if it was damaged by yourself (or in this case your dog) so I would say yes you are liable. Can you not replace it yourself?
Also, £25 is cheaper than what I would have thought as I'm sure Telewest charge £50 / £75 for faults not covered normally.0 -
It is the main socket.the rest of them were installed by others. Im not 100% sure the dog chewed it. it looks frayed tho and the socket was not attached to the wall so it may just have come loose.wouldnt mind paying £25 was just thinking though when they are here i could end up with ahuge bill0

If your nice to the engineer, make him/her a cuppa and give em a choccy biscuit you might be ok.
Loads of my customers get round me that way, its no good for my waistline though!!!0 -

You had TWO NTL engineers who answered that description call?
Ooh, those biscuit things are delicious, aren't they?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
