Whistling thermostatic radiator valve

One of my thermostatic radiator valves has started making a high pitched whistling sound. Once it starts whistling I have to turn it up or down to stop it. Sometimes this stops any further whistling, other times it starts again when it reaches that temperature.

Any ideas on how to fix it or do I need to replace it?

    Hi,

It may be a loose fitting just get an adjustable spanner and make sure the valve is tight.

How long has the valve been on the radiator?.

If it has not been on long it could be fitted the wrong way around
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

It's been on for as long as I've been in the house which is 18 years. It has been working perfectly until last year. It's just been annoying me more at the moment as it's not been so cold until today.

If the valve is fully opened it's fine.

I shall have a look at that.

Last time it was serviced I asked the engineer to look at it. He unscrewed the top part, checked the spindle inside to see if it was moving freely which it was. He then washed it as he said that dirt can sometimes cause it to whistle and screwed it back on. That didn't help though.
