Very basically, yes Celerons were introduced as low end CPU's.
Generally they have smaller L2 caches than their Pentium conunterparts.

Roughly speaking, a Celeron is the cheaper 'cut down' version of a Pentium. Whether you should stay from them or not depends on your computing needs. I was using a 600Mhz Celeron PC little over a year ago & was well-pleased.

It depends on the Celeron processor. They are essentailly cut down versions of the Pentium. The desktop versions aren't great (Celeron-D) although they have improved since the previous generation of Celerons. I certainly wouldn't choose one.
The Celeron-M is used in laptops and though cut down the differences are much smaller and I would be happy to use one of these. However Pentium-M laptops have come down so much in price and tend to come with faster processor speeds so in this case I would go for one of these instead. However if the speeds are similar or the same there's little reason for not choosing a Celeron-M especially if it saves a decent amount of money.0 -
