JSA when sick and over Christmas

My last signing day before Christmas I was in bed with flu. I phoned up and the woman said don't worry they will post me a form which is to be returned - and because they use second class post, she would make sure I didn't have to return the form till 30th December.
So the form didn't turn up till Christmas Eve, and because of being busy with Christmas and still feeling exhausted I only managed to take it back on 30th. While I was there I checked if my signing the next day was happening as usual, and the woman said no signings till next week.
But I haven't received any money now since 8th December, and what with having a child and Christmas and everything, things are getting pretty tight. What I want to know is should they have paid me any money while I was sick, or would they wait till the form had come back?
