Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am a bit concerned about how the VAT increase will affect shops such as poundland etc...
Presumably they won't become £1 and 2.5p shops
I was hoping to use our local pound shop more this year as i have just discovered it and there are many foody bargains to be had in there, and sweets etc.
How will they make the extra money?

yep theyndid - thinks went from round £s to a few pence less and I suspect they will go up the same - most companies can't/ won't absorb the costs themselves, in fact cynical me suspects the prices will go up more than the 2.5%People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Pound shops (especially the chain stores) have 'special size' pack sizes for a lot of items.
Pack sizes will shrink, just like they have done for all sorts of things recently.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Yeah I noticed that in MrT - they used to do girls knickers for £2 for 7 pairs, now you only get 60

Yes I agree - prices have been flying up for a while, and this is just going to be another of what we have already been experiencing for months :mad:0 -
Poundland did not reduce their price when VAT went down so they probably wont increase it.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0
