  • Most washing machines have a 'minimum iron' (or similar) setting.

I haven't ironed anything since about 1995 :D. (Luckily DH doesn't wear a collar and tie for work)
Give the washing a stiff shake before pegging out...

Just did the washing ..Back Garden in compleat shade .. but the sun is smack on the front roof for the 4KWh panels .. Tumble dryer .. oh yes!!:rotfl:

Are they the ones which can produce 4kWh/year .... or do you mean 4kWp panels, which on a very good day could produce somewhere close to 4kW for a short period of time ?? ;)

..........but if you have made them fluffy by using "Comfort" or similar, they don't dry as well.

Bung them in the tumbler for the last 5 minutes?
  • Don't worry John, the ecobunny in me meant I hung them out to dry first...they do fluff for a bit more than five minutes though:D

  • OK I give up. I've spent nearly 2 hours reading this thread and now I'm going cross eyed. I'm looking for tricks and tips for getting the most from my new panels. Sorry to moan but half the stuff on here is off topic. So possibly what I'm asking may already have been covered, but I could only manage to get through 22 of the 37 pages - eyes getting sore!

In particular I was wanting to learn about using batteries to store elec when the panels are generating more than we're using. I know it's probably not that simple, if it was everyone would be doing it, but I'd like to understand why.

Why can't you use a deep cycle battery and an inverter? Only £100 - £200 The sort you would use in a caravan etc.
When the sun's out and panels are generating an excess, plug it into the mains. When it's dark, plug something such as a lamp or TV into the inverter to use the stored elec.
Obviously there's a good reason why not but I just can't think what that would be.

Half the stuff? Please.........you're too kind. :)

Isn't the reason storage batteries aren't being used simply that the cost (bearing in mind lifespan and replacement) exceeds the likely benefit?

I don't know - just hazarding a guess. If it does make sense, economically, I'd be interested.
