Cctv

Hi, wanting to purchase CCTV 2 cameras should be enough. Does anyone have any recomendations. Ideally would like it to only come on when something goes past and also like the idea if being able to use through the iPhone. Only really need a range of 5-10 meters. Anyone that can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Maplin do a range, keep an eye out as they do deals on different kits at different times. They're not the world's greatest, but they're cheap enough especially on offer, and you have someone to take them back to if they don't work.

Have a look at the IP-based security cams. Wireless and you can route through a router without a PC having to be on.

There are cheaper models from 70 onwards, but stick with a standards compliant unit. Perhaps the Panasonic BL-C230 onwards [each is about £180]. An alternative is the Y-CAM product.

You can set them up to upload to an ftp server, or send an email to your phone etc. You can control them from a web client too. If you're into hacking and Linux, perhaps try ZoneMinder.

Remember, that if you site these things outside, you have to show a sign explaining clearly that people are in the presence of surveillance equipment.

On the cheap? Get a foscam or a foscam clone from fleabay or dealextreme (40-50quid delivered). Can pan, tilt, sound and works from iphone or webbrowser. http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.ip%20camera

For some pro gear take a look at the rfconcepts website.
