How could someone else cancel my services?

Can someone cancel your call plan and line rental without your knowlege?

I had line rental with BT and calls with Sky but a couple of month ago I got a letter from BT to say that my line rental was being moved to another campany. As I had spokent to Sky the week before to change my contract with them I assumed that they had put in the request as part of that (the woman at Sky was a bit dotty)

So today I got a letter from Sky confirming the cost of my internet. It looked a bit off to me so I called them and found out that a third party that they had no name for had asked them to cancel the talk plan. Again, this happend just after I spoke to them about changing my account to drop the TV part.

Now, I haven't spoken to any company other than BT and Sky and I certainly didn't ask for either my talk plan or line rental to be cancelled and I haven't recieved any paperwork or phone calls from any other company so can anyone think of any way this could have happended?

Sounds like a Sky 'agent' cocking up and you suffering. They'll deny it until the cows come home though.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That was my thought too the only problem is that both BT and Sky say they stopped providing my service in November. How can they still be providing service without their own knowlege?

No idea but, as you don't have a contract with anyone else, you're not liable to pay if 'Fred Bloggs Telco' or whoever suddenly sends you a bill!

Sounsds as though incompetence is still rife. One (or other) of these will still be providing service, so I wouldn;t go mad phoning the world. Dial 151 and see who it connects to, that's a good clue as to who is providing telco service.
