Long haul destination required for last minute honeymoon

Hi all
We are getting married in late march 2011 and we are looking for a nice place to go on honeymoon. We are asking for money from our guests so it will be a last minute booking (hopefully a couple of days after the wedding). Can anyone recommend anywhere? We were thinking about either mexico or Cuba but after scouring the Internet we are no closer finding somewhere within our budget! We are optimistically hoping for about 2.5k for budget. We would like some relaxation time but also maybe some good excursions, it would also be nice to feel safe wandering around on our own. We want to steer clear of the euro and go all inclusive for 14 nights preferably flying from Manchester.
Thanks in advance!

How about India - not been to Goa, but been to Kerala and its very relaxing there. Kovalam is very nice and got some nice hotels and could also look at Poovar which is a little further down the coast. Good thing is its not in the Euro - plus getting there you need to go via somewhere so you could do stop in Dubai or somewhere like that on the way there or back. Or Sri Lanka is also a very nice place to go.At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)0

i think the reasons that the prices are higher is because its the school holidays and easter period at the end of march early april time so everywhere gets hiked up
first choice is doing the rui yucatan in playa del carmen at 2582 for two week on 31st march and if you go on the fri 1st april to the 3rd its at 2440 but then it shoots up to over 3k cos its easter
im going there next saturday but to the rui playcar hotel on the same complex and cant wait
its a nice resort playa del carmen /playacar cos you can get out and about to the town of play del carmen and go around all the shops and bars ect and over on the ferry to cozumel as well plus you have the ruins at tulem which are easy to get to on the local bus
for cuba first choice are doing the las brisa in guardalavaca which is really nice as well i have stayed there twice
thats going on the 28 th march and is 2100
they have the hotel and the villas which are two storey high little clusters of villa in the grounds which are really nice but i would try to upgrade to this when you get there as i found it cheaper to do
but if you want a villa then its 2250 for this they are basically one big room much more spacious and lighter than the hotel rooms which are quiet dark (lot of dark wood) unless they have refurbished it since i went it has the usual swim up pool bar ect and there are 3 al carte resturant and i think a 24 hour gril bar as well
if you go april 4th then its 2144 so still within your budget
cuba is really nice and relaxing place and where the las brisa is situated you can go out and about there are a few local bars and resturants ( not much though ) and there used to be a open air nightclub just 5mins away where all the locals went to on the weekend that was great
its a really nice hotel big but not that big that you dont get to know everyone and the beaches are fabulous
both places are safe to go out as well on your own particualry in cuba where i went to the local night club on my own when o/h didnt want to go one night
excursions in cuba were very very cheap i remember doing 2 hours horseriding for 10 pounds and a whole day trip to swim with dolphins lunch going to the local school /medical center was around 60 each but this has probably gone up in price now
mexico trips tend to be more expensive
but im sure wherever you go though you will have a fab time on your honeymoon0 -
Congrats
