Hamper for new born baby ideas

My SIL is soon due in a few weeks and I have just started to think about a present/s. We could of course just go out and buy a toy or something but I wanted to make a little hamper up, something with abit more thought and personal.
I didn't know if I should be a feeding themed one for whilst he (they know it's a he lol), grows up. So thought of some Baby Cubes Food Portioners, a 'Truuuly Scrumptious Book of Organic Baby Purees' and then I ran out of ideas!!! or maybe I should make something up she can use straight away?
We aren't very close so don't know her that well (as in her tastes) but would still like to give a lovely gift so could do with some ideas please if you can think of anything, or perhaps you've made yourself?
Any helpful replies would be really appreciated.

How about the food themed items you have already thought of, a bib, a baby grow and some little booties?
Sorry, i'm not very imaginative when it comes to presents for babies, even though I have 2 of my own!Life is like a box of chocolates..........you always seem to pick the hard ones!0 -
That sounds lovely.
Bibs, muslin clothes for feeding when baby is born. If baby is being bottle fed you could get a bag to keep bottle warm. The puree book is a lovely idea with bibs, feeding spoons, food storage pots maybe a hand blender if they don't have one, a drinking cup. Then a nice plate / bowl / cup set for when baby is a bit older to continue the feeding themeIt's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission0 -
what a fab gift.
a ice cube tray would be good. there great for storing small portions on baby food in. and pureed veg and fruit etc for little one.0 -
i would also add a few pamper bits for her or voucher to get hair or nails done etc. everyone thinks of baby not mum!due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

You took the words right out of my mouth.
What about a special bowl and spoon for baby tooComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
I used to love doing these when I was working and someone had a baby - I even made some up to look like storks !! They would always have a mixture of the following ....
Baby toiletries ( travel size are good unless you have a huge basket !) talc shampoo...baby bath etc. Gripe Water, booties, bibs, babygros. hats, book ( toddler taming was a favorite !) (you can pick these up in charity shops for pennies in great condition) baby hooded towel, blanket, soft toy, first size nappies, ( you can ask for samples from Huggies/Pampers etc) I would do them up with bouquet wrap and a big bow ! forgot...always include a treat for Mum !!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0 -
What about making a Nappy cake? I have seen lots of these and there is even a dedicated thread for it on here, they look amazing when all finished. Muslin clothes never have enough of these, bigs, socks, and vests, Nappies (hundreds) lol For mum, Neals Yard remedies do a gorgeous mum set, and it was the best present someone got me, made my skin really soft. I got a bottle thermal warmer, was brilliant wrapped it around the bottle as you were heading out and it kept it warm for a good while. A Dumpy thermos flask is great when they are eating solids, keeps it warm and is not difficult to get the food out. Annabel Karmels weaning guide! Brilliant book, and Gina Fords contented little baby book. Two books I loved. Sorry rambling ....................Saving 2.00 coinsGrocerys set to 40.00 pwBeing Thrifty0

Most stuff will be appreciated but you will need to know if your SIL will be cooking her own food and freezing this or just buying jars.
We got good presents such as feeding spoons, baby towel (always handy) some toiletries such as wipes, baby bubble bath, baby shampoo, vaseline, cotton wool, bum cream, etc. We also got a set of reigns which was great when DD was old enough to use and we did not need to buy.
We got a few photo albums which we use and DD loves to look at these herself as well as we got a baby record book where we recorded first things and kept some stuff.
I am sure that you will be able to find stuff to make up a wee basket of goodies for baby and a few things to treat mum.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46
