1) Looks like it - just a generic Canon 18-55 cheapo IS kit zoom.
2) Volume? The 550D has sold in buckets compared with the 500D

Really? Wait for the sake of £20? It's a £900 camera (at launch) and now with Magic Lantern releasing a firmware version for the 550D its usefulness goes up even more (if you don't mind taking a small chance). Smashing camera, very, very well supported and loved by the community thanks to the 1080/25p video capability.
