Thomas Cook Holiday Paying - Please Help :o(

My fiance recently lost his job and we still have over £900 to pay for our holiday by 2nd February (we fly on 22nd May) - does anyone know if there is any way of extending the date it has to be paid by in order that we can have a few more months to pay or will we just have to cancel the holiday? The annoying thing is, if we had up until the holiday to pay it we would be able to manage it!
Hope someone can let me know and thank you so much in advance. x

Could you possibly get a credit card and pay it off between 2nd Feb and When you go away. It would amount to the same thing.

Or do you have any family you could borrow from and pay them back up to the time you go away.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I had a similar situation with Thomas Cook and they allowed an extra 2 weeks to pay but that was all.

Would suggest you speak to them about an extension, however, if you have not got the money by the original due date even if you do get an extension you will have to cancel it - sure there will be more pressing items to pay for.

Same thing happened to us a couple of years ago, got a 2 week extension but realism set in and a week before the original payment date we didn't have enough - rent and utilities took priority and cancelled - I was really upset. I am glad though in retrospect we didn't whack it on a credit card as it took longer to find a job than expected and took longer after to sort ourselves out once back working.

Awful time for you, good luck in the job hunting.
Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!

if you apply for a thomas cook credit card, then pay the balance on it, you will get 3 months interest free credit. Ask the store, i am sure they will help you. Good Luck

Could you perhaps change the date of the holiday to later in the year, that way you'd have longer to pay and then take the holiday later in the year?

I have to say though, if I lost my job and was stuggling to pay for the holiday I'd be gutted, but I would cancel if I couldn't afford it.

fantab, unfortnately in this day and age, extentions on payments can be very difficult. at the end of the day, if you do not pay the full amount, then the travel agent either has to pay the amount on your behalf, or cancel your holiday as per the terms & conditions.

who did you book the holiday through (Travel agent wise). if it was throgh a TC shop, they may have a bit more leeway as it is their holiday they are selling, however due to 'audit' purposes, they may be unwilling to do this.

have you looked at your holiday insurance to see if this will cover you? you may well end up getting a better & cheaper holiday at a later date, once you have all your money saved up. Likewise, as been mentioned above, can you afford the holiday itself (not been patronising here, however just unaware of your personal circumstanses). hanging holiday dates is s good suggestion too.

Does your travel insurance have redundancy cover, check that 1st, and did you book in a Thomas cook shop, internet or phone as its easier to negotiate in person.
  • Thank you all so much for your replies! I have had a quick look at TC credit card reviews and nearly every review is a bad one - plus I wouldn't have the first idea about getting a credit card! Not sure if family is an option but are working on it lol!
The main reason we really want to go is because we have booked it with my sister, husband and children and I know they will be gutted if we can't go!
Going to ring TC and see what extension we can get as if I can have until the end of Feb. then I will be able to pay most of it myself from wages and therefore won't have to borrow as much.

Thanks again for your suggestions and best wishes x
