Switching Land Line Providers (Away From Primus), Help Needed!

I am currently with Primus. I am wanting to switch providers because they have just increased caller display charges by 400%.

Anyway I'm a bit confused. They say I'm on an auto renewing contract and to cancel. I have to give 30 days notice prior to the contract auto-renewed in writing. The thing is I don't want to cancel the line, I just want to move to a new provider. So do I just sign up with someone else 30 or so days before my contract auto-renews? Will this then automatically cancel my Primus account?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance.

I would say give them notice that you intend to cancel and then switch suppliers as when they cancel the line it wont effect switching as the physical connection will still be there for alternatives to make live. You will have to do it though while your phone number is still live as then you would end up with a new number.

So give the notice then transfer to someone else before the notice period is up? I'm really worried that I end up with a disconnected phone line and lose my number.

Whenever I've switched before I've just singed up with the new provider and everything has happened automatically. I've never been on a silly auto-renewing contract though.

Yes if there asking for notice then give the notice and sign up to your new providerr the same day as that way your number would be kept live by the new provider when they accept the connection and transfer it to themselves and your notice would have been fulfilled.
