Problems with Windows Updating on laptops

Haven't tried the last thing you have suggested OneADay as unsure exactly wot to do but think we are almost at point of taking laptops back to restore factory settings and reloading other software again in hope that clears the problem. Would then try to update in smaller batches (altho couldnt find the way in which one custom updates (sorry, very limited in knowledge and skill in this department!)If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0

Check the date, time and time zone is correct. I've seen the same error when the year and/or month has been out, typically on gear with flat CMOS batteries.0

Sorry for delay in replying - not been online today until now.
The above sounds the same as advise given from Windows when they are firing back the error code as we try to check for updates.. We have tried this several times now without change unfortunately. If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0 -

Sorry for delay - absolutely no luck with any of the above so have done a factory reset.
Good news is the computers are now updating Windows and seem to be up-to-date in every way except that Vista SP1 is on but not SP2.
Have gone to Microsoft website (on my laptop) to check where to access download and found details where it says to download 5 language version if computer langauge set to english (64bit system BTW) but then cant find the actual location of the download.
Could anyone help by linking to the relevant SP2 download page please?
I am panicking that the laptops weren't updating due to something to do with Vista being unsupported from April 2010 but reading further this should only be the case, should it not, if no SP was on it. As SP1 is on it at factory reset now, then it was obviosuly on it when computers were bought in Oct 2009 and set up and the assumption would be SP2 would have downloaded automatically (or would it I fear????).
Last Q, going to put AVAST 5 onto the laptops but do I do this before starting to download SP2 or not? Unless windows updates goes online (which thinking about it it will do) , I havent actually linked to internet as such yet.
Sorry if anything I have said or asked is ignorant - lack knowledge in these matters I'm afraid. If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0 -
