keen to know the reliability and durability of EI systems or is it a case of you get what you pay for.

what about availability of parts for upgrading?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Hi wazza - What parts did you have in mind for upgrading? Pretty much all laptops are the same as far as the parts you can upgrade yourself go. RAM, and thats it. Ok it is possible to upgrade the hard drive, with a limited level of skill, but past that and its not possible on a laptop. In short you get a laptop as it comes, after a while upgrade the RAM, next step is to throw it away. Should last you about 5 years if you dont mind being a little out of date near the end.

As far as connectivity goes, its got USB2 on it, so that should cover you for most things you may wish to connect ie Printer, Card Reader, Scanner, DigiTV Antenna etc.

Hope this clears things up for you. Its a cheap laptop, you get what you pay for, but here you get a little more than you pay for when you compare it to others. Yes, you can get a better brand for more money, or a higher spec for more money, but this is a choice you make when buying anything in life. Bottom line is why pay for what you dont need. Most users never change the laptop they buy from out of the box to into the bin (or ebay).

Hardly durable. The keyboards bend to the touch. I've seen these in both PCWorld & Currys with missing keys, hardly enticing people to buy them. The insides are probably shoddy as well.
If you're gonna spend £350 and want something durable, try the Lenovo 3000 C100 if it's still available from Misco or Ebuyer.

The Lenovo 3000 C100 is a much better brand and more sturdy laptop, but fifty quid (plus shipping) more, for less memory and no DVD writer, its a choice each one will have to make.

I've got one for daughter for Christmas.

To be honest, it seems a bargain. I have had it out and tested it and am very impressed at what you get for the money. (Used Quidco and got an extra 3% cash back for collect in store - this paid for the spare battery.)
