Which netbook help please

Hi

I'm looking at buying a netbook, this samsung looks a good deal to me because of the 2 year warranty, batterylife and the fact I have some vouchers to spend at john lewis:

http://www.johnlewis.com/231070859/Product.aspx

The other is this acer.

http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/1000145842/acer-aspire-one-black-netbook---intel-atom-250gb-1gb-memory.aspx

Any help much appreciated as I'm not very well informed on netbooks.

Thanks in advance

I have a packard bell KAV60 which I got last year from currys for £289 reduced from £429 and would highly reccomend it, I pay £4 a month for accidental damage cover perputally as well which I think is better than buying a warranty for a set amount of time.
just be aware that they don't have microsoft office preinstalled on them, the salesman tried to sell me an office package for £100 but "could do you a deal for only £70 cos you're a student" which I thought was quite bad as it added a lot to the price. I just bought the netbook then had a friend install a copy of the programmes I needed for my uni work onto it :)
  • Hi there,

I think the Samsung seems like a good deal, especially it has the two years warranty, which is very important. I personally will not purchase from Best Buy UK, I had a really bad experience with them, their system has serious problems along with bad customer service. I won't go into much details here, but basically their website won't process my order, yet they have managed to taken my credit from my credit cards FOUR TIMES for the same "non-existed" orders. It's been a nightmare trying to get the situation resolve over the phone with their customer service, as they didn't want to admit that there was any problem with their site. I have spoken to them three times and they weren't helpful at all. So, to sums up, you need to consider the quality of customer service as well when making a purchase.

Packard Bell dot models on Amazon from £200 to £260, the difference in model numbers (013/014 etc) is only to do with colour and whether 3 or 6 cell battery is fitted, 6 cell typically costing £50 more. But you can buy just the 6 cell battery online for under £50.

These are a bit more fashionable looking than average, get solid good reviews, note they have glossy screen.

  • Thanks for the input, got the samsung and have to say on first impressions seems very solid and makes the acers seem cheap and plasticy.

Very happy so far and two year warranty for peace of mind:j

Enjoy your Samsung netbook! I've had the nc10 for two years now, I with no problems. In fact I liked it so much that when my full size Dell laptop died I replaced it with a samsung laptop, and have been really pleased with that too.

  • Wouldn't recommend these netbooks as the ATOM CPU is just terrible. In my opinion it's much better to go for a 'low voltage CPU' or CULV such as an Intel SU2300 or SU4100. A decent example is the Samsung X120, lacking in graphics but the SU4100 is more than capable and can even run BBC iplayer at 720p through the HDMI out. Internet browsing and office work would be a breeze. Currently on offer through Argos just shy of £300 for those interested!
