    TBH if both mum and daughter have upwards of a million quid each, they should spend a tiny bit of it on professional advice to discover what would be the most advantageous way of them buying a property together.
    As mum is only in her early 60's, and only 5% of people need residential care in later life, deprivation of assets at some point is a very, very minor consideration.

    Where did you get that statistic?

    I'm sure I hear that for men the odds are 20% and for women 33%. Though the current trend is to try to keep people in their own homes - where there is a sporting chance they can still remember their way to the loo etc. and it tends to work out cheaper because the family shoulder more of the care and organisation.
