belkin router issues/connecting wireless

Hi

can anyone help, my router has been fine for last couple of years, now it seems to have an issue, not sure what, but seemed to be since installing norton 360 - now removed.

anyway, can connect to internet via modem, but when I then put through router I cant connect, very odd.

if I search on another PC it shows the wireless router, but shows as no connection to internet - which is kinda obvious as I have to put the internet cable direct into modem otherwise I have no internet at all because of the wireless router problem.

Has anyone got any ideas, have done a reset on the reset button on the wireless router, but I really can't work out what is going wrong.

Many thanks in advance

    Model would help...
Is this an ADSL modem/router, or an ADSL router and using separate modem?
If you have done a factory reset, did you then re-enter your broadband username and password into the router interface?
get it working using ethernet, then set up the wireless connection.
What are the diagnostic lights telling you?

Hi there, sorry should have put on initial post it is

    A Belkin F5D7231-4 Wireless G Router

the set up is the Virgin cable goes to into router and the router then connects into the modem

    so modem/router 2 seperate units.

I havent put in user name etc back into interface as I assumed (wrongly prehaps) that the router would need to be connected and I can't get it to connect to internet.

Not even sure what the broadband user name and password would be :-(

    cheers

The connection to the router interface is just between your PC and the router (an LAN connection). No internet connection is required to do that.

sorted now, have reset both modem and router at same time, reconnected all cables, waited for both to reboot and now seem to be back up and working reset SSID and PSK and appears to work just going to check the wireless from the other equipment now......

With VM cable, the first thing to do is switch everything off (modem, router and PC), wait a couple of minutes, the switch everything back on in sequence starting from the upstream end (so modem, router, then PC). That seems to fix many faults I have encountered.
