Heating on 24/7 or Timer?

Dear All,

Is it cheaper to leave my heating (combi boiler) on 24/7 or use the timer to come on in the morning for a couple of hours then again in the evening? We have a South Facing Conservatory heats up our downstairs in the daytime pretty well. I do have thermo's on each radiator which I can adjust accordingly if going for the 24/7.

Any advice would be grately appreciated as trying to keep my gas bill down.

Many Thanks, Nikki

I don't think there is much difference.

What I do is have is have it on 24/7 where the daytime setting is about 18 degrees and nightime is about 16 (hardly ever comes on).
This stops it getting cold but doesn't waste heat when we aren't in.

If I am in and I'm cold then I simply switch it up from 18 - 19 and it doesn't take long to warm up but saves money when we are out.

    Works for me.

    Discussed countless times:

The more it is off - the lower the bills. So use timer.

No doubt - no discussion - Timer timer timer!!!!

Loads of urban myths about it takes more enery to heat up house than keeping it hot.

Check Energy Saving Trust for confirmation.

If anyone thinks it is cheaper left on 24/7 they should also leave their kettle boiling 24/7 - same principle!!
