Barclays paying 5% on 9 month fixed rate bond

Barclays are mailing selected customers with a 9 month fixed rate bond paying 5% AER. It's a limited issue fixed rate savings bond offering a guaranteed return. Minimum investment £2k, maximum £10k. One per customer but if you have a joint account, you can open one in your name & one in your partners. Interest is paid at the end of the 9 months. Available to existing Barclays customers only.

If you're looking to for safety & to improve the return on your savings, it's a good deal. Halifax are paying 4.75% for 6 months & MBNA 5% for 1 year. As a customer with a couple of thousand in my current account, I've just opened one.

Have been on the hunt for a good fixed rate deal, but I am tempted to wait, as the latest vibes we've been getting is fears of runaway inflation (well, not runaway, but definitely higher than projected), coz of which, it does look like interest rates will go up in the next six months or so.

Yes, that seems to be the case. I think it will stay where it is for now and any upward move will be after the election.
