I currently work 16 hours and my hubby works 40 hours we do get wtc and ctc not the childcare element,I am now faced with having to leave work(disabled child)as we both work evening shifts and my employer has no other hours to offer me.I have been on the entitled to web and checked our entitlement for the new tax year 2011 and it say we are entitled to NOTHING surely this cant be right as our income will be at least 5k lower than this year.any help much appreciated.

If you have paid sufficient NI contributions for the relevant tax years (now Apr 08-Apr 10) then you will be able to claim contribution based JSA IF you will be actively looking for another job, however this may well be sanctioned for a period as you have voluntarily left your job.
As tax credits are based on last years income there is unlikely to be a change unless you advise them to use an estimate for this year instead however this has a danger as you lose any disregard and as we are 2/3rds of the way through the tax year it may make little difference.
Does your child receive DLA - do you claim carers allowance?0 -
Yes my son gets dla and yes i claim carers allowance, but the dla is not mine to use as i wish,I cannot use this is a fall back.
Maybe there was something up with the site when i used it cause it stated that we are not even entitled to child tax credits.0 -

I always thought you couldn't claim carer's allowance if you earned over £100 a week? Or am I wrong?Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

You say you are going to be £5K down but you dont say what your husband earns.
Or your household income in your first post. Someone had to actually ask you about
DLA and CA.
That would probably bring different answers if you gave us the correct information.
What do you use your childs DLA for then, again, you havent said.
I dont see how you can expect proper help if you dont give all the facts.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

So sorry about not giving all the info,as i said my sons dla is not mine to spend as i wish that is to make his life more comfortable that was awarded for him.So it is spent on him,i receive ca as my earnings of 16 hours per week at minimum wage do not go over the £100 per week,my oh works 40 hours per week at minimum wage which is £237,so losing my wage means we will be down 4933.Anything else ive missed?0

You would receive child tax credits on the income you've put here so I'm not sure why it said otherwise.
Did you put in your income for last year?
If you put your new income alone, you will get a more accurate assessment. I find that better than muddying the results with old information.
But then, it can't be using last years figures as you were entitled then and still would be if you were working...
Did you make sure you got the payment intervals correct? I have had a strange result before now and realised afterwards I had the annual amount as 'weekly'. It's in a drop down box at the top and it hadn't stayed as I put it.0 -
Hi, I have similar circumstances to you having just left my job to care full time for my son. I looked at the info on entitledto.co.uk and the hmrc website and both have given me different figures for tax credits.
I am now just waiting to see what I actually receive. Surely if your income has gone down that much you must be entitled to more?0 -
OP you say that you have to give your job up as both yourself and your partner work evening shifts ?
Wouldnt it make more sense for one of you (most likely yourself as part time positions may be easier to find) to move onto a morning or afternoon shift with another employer?
That way one of you would be at home with your disabled child at all times and also enables both parents to be working and bringing home a wage.
Im guessing that your child goes to school during the day ? Couldnt you work at that time ?
For many years myself and my OH worked oppossite shifts to each other .... wasnt the ideal situation but when you have children who require caring for and bills that need paying then you do what you have to do !!!The loopy one has gone :j0 -
I have looked for a job that is between the times my kids are at school, unfortunatley they are not that easy to find.0
