New Laptop - how do I maximise battery life?

Your laptop probably has settings to make it shut down just before the battery runs out.

There is some good and bad advice above.
..but in general, I think you should just use laptops as required. You buy a laptop for portable convenience. As long as you're reasonably sensible, the battery will serve you well for at least 18 months and probably more. When it's knacked, replace it. I know this is a money saving website but around a pound a week towards a future replacement battery shouldn't break the bank.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -

Who actually wants to take the battery out when they use it, discharge it, charge it, leave it a week, do it every 2nd week, yada yada yada, so much rigmarole... Dare I say there's more to life?
maybe some treat their machines as pets:eek::rotfl::o

I run 3 laptops and all their batteries are still holding good charge after 2-3 years.
Not so the satnav where the li-ion batt has failed twice each time after 2 years. The satnav never got charge cycles - I just leave it plugged into the car socket all the time.0
