I've started to store cat food , tins, cleaning products out in the garage but with this below freezing spate of cold weather I did wonder whether it would damage things like beans and soup to be frozen in the tin? anyone know?
I store loads of food in the garage, but it is ajoined to the house, so maybe doesn't get so cold. No problems for me.0 -
I haven't got a storage cupboard, just a normal cupboard in the kitchen, i wouldn't really have the room to store things for six months, i live within walking distance of a supermarket, so just buy as i need.0

For me its just a case of buying when there are offers on staples like beans, cat food, washing powders, tbags etc... it saves me money in the long run...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Went to B&Q looking for a free-standing larder unit in a pine finish to match the rest of the units. Found one on a pallet of discontinued stock. Got it for £4.88.
It does for most of my stockpile - up to two years supply of some tins & jars:D
6 months supply of cat food wouldn't fit so it's stacked in the corner of the kitchen.chalkiesalem wrote: »why on earth are you storing all this food?
To save money.
Most things with a long shelf life I only buy when they're on offer.
I've still got quite a few tins of corned beef from a couple of years ago when Asda were selling a pack of three for £1.50 . They're £4.98 now!
As for washing tablets - I think I've got a life time supply. At the end of one of their cleaning events Tesco were selling boxes of 80 tablets for less than the price of a box of 40 (or 48?). I bought a couple every time I went in. All stashed in the spare bedroom now.0 -

It's not really a case of storing food - it's more a case of buying things when they are on offer! It saves lots of money in the long run but it does get addictive! My resolution is to use some of my stockpiled food before buying any more. In answer to the original question, I store wherever there is any space - in the garage, under the bed, in the wardrobes, boxes under the stairs, depending on what the item is!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

How do you remember what you have?
I've bought extras of special offers before, and when I've run out of what I've been using bought a replacement, then later discovered half a dozen tucked away in whatever little corner I could find.
I am a bit strapped for space (small park home) and not being the most organised/tidy person in the world I am prone to 'discovering' goodies that I'd forgotten all about.
So, do you have a system?0 -

For me its to save money,if I see something at a good price I will stock up.For example... about 18 months ago Asda had a good brand of cat food that normally sells at £3.00 a pack(6 tins)but they were going through the tills at 50p.I stocked the garage up and after using it everyday we still have at least 12 months worth left, they have a useby date 2013.
When Tesco had the 1p beans and 1p pasta sauce,I stocked up.
When i go shopping with friends and see what they spend at the supermarket and the way they moan about it,i just smile and say "thats life".I dont pass on my OS ways because when I tried the last time they looked at me as though i had two heads. Its when they say I wish we had money like you, they think we are loaded because we had two new bathrooms put in,and we are about to have new windows and kitchen. We are not rich just very careful,my spending changed when I joined this site some years ago and I have never looked back,we paid off all our debt, and while friends pay a couple of hundred a week on food I pay about £50/60.Thats for 7 adults,2 dogs, the cat and parrot. As the saying goes "pennies make pounds".0
