upmystreet.com - not busy anymore?

Hi,

In that past, I used to read the forums on upmysteet.com as people would give good general advice on areas etc. These days however, nobody even reply's to meesages on the forums. I get the impression that upmystreet is no longer the popular site. Is there a different one people use now? Also, are there any forums out there where I can find out about specific areas from the people who live there??

Cheers,
Bal.

    Welcome to the leylandii community.

    Walls not friendship.
  • I think UpMyStreet is still a very busy site for what it does (local information) and is now part of the huge uSwitch group.

However, when I last took a look at their forum message area, it looked pretty much like the only people posting were idiots using the board for pointless discussion and mudslinging.

Most likely this is due to UpMyStreet failing to moderate the forum boards, a fatal mistake as this leads to all sorts of abuse which dissaudes normal people from using the service and, worse, as in your case makes people believe that the WHOLE service has gone down.

Just goes to show that forum boards can be very dangerous things to have on your website if you don't manage them properly...!

  • I'm not sure on the question of useful *forums* (this is the best one I know and use regularly :j ) - if you type "local information" into Google, it is UpMyStreet that comes up tops of the websites...

Possibly some of the mapping sites like streetmap and multimap have local links associated....?

I quite like "The Rat and Mouse" which although essentially a London centred site has a good blog section, the forum though is newish so have not used that, may not be much good for searching out "local" information:

Another possibility is the village sites like MyVillage...

im eternally surprised at people asking on here, how many people have first hand knowledge of living in specific areas.

Channel4.com /homes is also Ok, but not as good as here I wouldnt say. :money:
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
