I want to emigrate in the none to distant future, so if he decided to stir the pot(again no pun intended) re my "extra curricular" it could have catastrophic consequences for my future!

I've been reading this thread with quite some sympathy toward you until you decided to keep bringing this up and I have to say I'm considering the very real possibility that you're a troll.

If you want to emigrate so badly and are worried that your illegal activities might hamper this if discovered.... just a thought but... stop doing the thing thats illegal?

I can assure you that I'm not a troll at all. I'm sorry if I gave you that impression. It's not a matter of keeping bringing something up, just that I'm somewhat concerned regarding the consequences of things escalating.

Perhaps I should've omitted certain information, but wanted to give the full picture. I didn't realise the fact I'm partial to a toke would negate or justify what's happened, but if that's the case, mea culpa :(

It doesn't justify what your landlord has done, don't put words in my mouth.

However what he has done does not somehow justify you flouting the law as well.

If you choose to do something illegal then you need to accept the consequences of doing it, one of which is that it might screw up the future you want.

Only you can weigh up the likelihood of your decision to do something illegal causing you problems in the future but its a bit rich to whine that it's your landlords fault if you get into trouble over it.

If you are suitably worried - then the solution is painfully simple - stop doing it until you're well clear of the landlord and any 'hold' he has over you (ie the roof over your head).

In short - your choice to partake in the activity so the consequences are yours too.

I'm certainly not trying to put words in your mouth, I shall apologise again. I'm sorry.

You are of course right. I'm not whining at all, merely trying to explain my concerns. If my landlord were to discover what was happening albeit not actually on his property and to report it as an attempt to "get back at me" then obviously it would be my own fault for my actions. But of course, I would feel unhappy about it.

Perhaps we are misunderstanding each other here. I've no desire to argue with you whatsoever. Many people break the law in various ways, however I'm sure that you have never done so, and for that I salute you.:)

Your LL can report you re 'herbal' activities but without any evidence it's his word against yours and it won't go any further.

I would definitely consider reporting the incident to the police as an assault, and take all the advice from G_M. slummymummy's advice is well meant but erroneous.

Just an aside, in my tenancy agreement, it basically states that if they upset the neighbours, they're out on their ear. And neighbours doesn't mean just the houses directly next door.

The LL was probably called by someone living nearby who wasn't especially chuffed at the noise. They could even live in the house that backs onto yours or either side for a few houses. At my old house we'd hear the noise of a party halfway down the street.

And the LL was probably a bit !!!!!! off at having to go round to sort out people who are supposed to be grown adults when he was trying to enjoy the evening as well.

As for drug taking evidence, cannabis can be detected in most drug tests 3 days after use and in a hair test several months.
  • Thanks once gain folks. I seem to have somehow annoyed moromir regarding certain lifestyle choices. Once again I shall apologise. That isn't my intention at all.

I don't want to drag this into a drugs law discussion, but all I would say is, it's my body, and if I don't have control over that, then what do I? I'm 30 years old, and have had plenty of life experience, and borne the consequences of my own and others actions. I'm sure the reaction would be different if I was a drinker, but meh. Time to leave that topic.

As for the noise nuisance, as I've said I would be happy to be evicted on the basis of that. However I doubt my landlord would do this. I'd really like to repair the relationship, and have a discussion as the pair of adults that we are. I've no desire to host any further gatherings. I was thinking that in my letter to him, I would offer to shampoo all the carpets in the house as something of an olive branch.

Thanks for that Hammy. I'm not trying to make out I'm a saint or a martyr. I WAS wrong to have caused nuisance. I have NEVER disputed this for a moment. I was apologetic, got everyone to leave immediately, and for any noise to stop immediately too.

I'm sure my landlord was angry. I understand that it is New Year for him too. He had my phone number and he'd have had the same effect with a stern telephone call. Although ti is worth remembering he ignored my phone calls regarding frozen pipes(uninsulated in an out-building where the washing machine is situated) and the internet being cut off as he hadn't paid the bill.

As for the hair topic, I'm pretty sure the police can't take action based on the fact I've taken drugs, although I may be wrong on this. I feel the discussion has been derailed as I've mentioned this. Again my own fault.

Sorry I seem to have rattled your cage.......bad day was it?

When you've quite finished being patronising...........
Not rattled, and no, quite a good day actually.
If I sounded patronising that was not intended.

But I worry when posters with serious problems are given false hope or erroneous advice. As has been said, I'm sure your comments were well-intentioned, but as you appeared to acknowledge yourself (" there must be some legal loophole for you to get out of it") you really did not know the law in this area. Hence best to stick to sympathy, rather than advice or holding out hope.

Stay off the toke..its antisocial and keeps you dumbed down in your flat...best thing i ever done...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
