Part Exchanges
I have just bought a Toyota Auris from the dealers, 60 reg, it was in the showroom, with a reduction of 5000 pounds, leaving £11,995.00 to pay, I fell in love with it, and bought it there and then. Paying Cash. with no finance.
The car I was trading in is a Citreon C2 Furio, 05 registration with 8400 miles on the clock, the dealer refused to believe that the car had only done that amount of miles, I didnt have the service book on me, so I was only offered 2000 trade in. The next day I attended the showroom with all the proper documents, and he refused to up the offer, because he said that he was actually losing money because I was paying cash.
He did me a favour really because I left the showroom, and went to a used car dealer, he almost snapped my hand off for the car, and with in hours I had £3750.00 my hubby swears that the showroom already had a buyer lined up for the car. Do they really do this?

I expect part of the £5000 reduction was being funded by the low part exchange offer for your car.0

A Toyota main dealer does not want a 5 year old Citroen and so offered you a rubbish price because all they'll do is sell it to another trader. Therefore they'll only offer you a price that gives them a nice healthy profit, in this case £1,750. That's what trading-in is, they take the hastle out of selling your car, but at a price.0

Seconded. 5 year old cars are an albatross around your neck to a main dealer. Most will end up in auctions or sold on to trade.0

It depends on the car, mileage, condition and dealer.

Go find us a 2002 Citreon on there then.
Might be better asking Hammyman since he didn't refer to Citroens either and made a general statement about used cars.....as did I.
But since you can't make any comments without sarcasm I've found a few old Citroens for you
http://www.usedcar.citroen.co.uk/?makeId=261&maxAge=7&vehicleTypeId=1&sortType=16.........right back to 2004 vehicles.
