B&Q sales decline

Yes, I have a vague recollection that B&Q owns Screwfix too - so I can blame them for Screwfix' recent incompetent site move!
Builders' Merchants might also be so expensive because they usually offer builders large discounts.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
Yes I heard B&Q own Screwfix too.
A warehouse staff shortage has unhinged internet home improvement business Screwfix.com, part of the Kingfisher retail group.

Interesting, I never knew they owned screwfix.
Don't know about you, but this sticks in my throat more!! Chances are the same things you can buy from screwfix are the exact same ones in different packaging, but cost a third of B+Q prices. They offer free delivery as well, and b+q charge for it I think.0 -
Yes, I think B&Q do own Screwfix, which is remarkable given that Screwfix offers some of the lowest prices in the UK, whilst B&Q charges some of the highest.
Does anyone know if there is any serious competition to Screwfix in the UK, i.e. any other websites to check for the Screwfix type of product.

You cant really compare the 2 tho Screwfix is cataloue and internet sales only they have 1 warehouse and a few hundred staff maybe , B+Q have hundreds of stores and thousands of staff.
I agree they are expensive we tend to use Wilkos or Boyes as they are very cheap.0 -

Well of course you can't - if you can benefit from these many outlets and thousands of staff, i.e. if you want to be able to look at the products, ask advice about them, or obtain them instantly. But many people just go to these places by default because (just as with the main supermarket chains) they believe that because they're big, they're cheap. They would be far better ordering from Screwfix.I agree they are expensive we tend to use Wilkos or Boyes as they are very cheap.
Yes, Wilkinson's is very cheap - although they don't have the product range of Screwfix or B&Q. But they do have lots of outlets and staff, so that sort of contradicts what you said earlier (O:Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
B & Q did indeed buy out screwfix. The guy who sold it to them then went on to open toolstation.com which is now a cheaper supplier of many items. It will beat screwfix on any similar product although the product range is not as big as screwfix's. Delivery times and customer service are about equal between toolstation and screwfix. I tend to look on both and buy from toolstation if possible as they are normally slightly cheaper.0
