Via a proxy server in the UK, remote desktop to a computer in the UK or similar service but so slow as to be unusable.
Amazingly, they speak ENGLISH in South Africa so she may find she's able to watch TV there.0 -

We know what you mean, and you cannot access these services abroad because they check the ISP address of the computer which gives away its location i.e SA. The proxy server is the only way to fool BBC and ITV into thinking your still in the UK, but as its said its slow and almost unusable.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

And this is the right thing to do as BBC Worldwide (who sell BBC stuff internationally) are a major revenue stream for the Beeb, which is essential as the license fee has frozen! If they allowed overseas connections, the license payer would be subsidising the world's TV watching, and international sales would drop!
Instead, I suggest you encourage her to make more of her time there than just watching British TV ;-)0 -
What about a Slingbox ?

We have one with a built-in Freeview tuner so you can connect to it over the web and watch whatever you want live. Will also work to watch recorded stuff on our SkyHD box.
Thanks

Your router may support VPN (rather than a third party) which allows you to trick the iPlayer into thinking you are in the UK. This works very well, but I've found the speed a problem.
I use the Slingbox Solo which is a relatively cheap and easy solution if linked with Sky etc... although you still have the speed issue occasionally.
