Block Paving

I am in the process of obtaining quotes to prepare and block pave my front garden (only 16'x16') to provide off road parking. Quote to include removal of stone wall (30"x11"x12'). I am bugeting for around £1000, but actually have no idea how much this type of work costs. Is my budget in the right area? I am getting a quote from Everest which I expect to be way over the top, and also some from much smaller companies.

Do you think my budget is reasonable??

everest and others will be way over 5k.

Everest starting price will be over £10,000.

Go to you local groundworks companies and get them to quote you.

Removal of the wall, digging out waste and removal of the material will likely eat up most of your £1000.

£2000+vat might be more realistic.

Agree with Russe11 that removal of wall with eat most if not all of £1000.
But I think laying around 25sq m of block paving will cost quite a bit more than another £1000 so I'd say price will be higher than £2k by a reasonable amount.

http://www.pavingexpert.com/blocks.htm#lay shows rates from £70 per sq m so that means the 16' x 16' (approx 5m x 5m) would come in at around £1750. Of course that's just a guide and your area may be cheaper but it shows that the £1000 budget is a bit low.

Everest have a minimum non discountable fee of£3000, so I have cancelled their appointment!!! Have had a quote of £2100. Have got another 2 companies coming to quote tomorrow.

Did you cancel you appointment with Everest because they price conditioned(you finding out that it going to involve an amount of money) you on the phone when confirming to do a "quotation"?

Pretty much. I told the guy on the phone that I had been quoted just over £2K, he then told me they had a minimum non discountable fee of £3K, so I told him I wouldnt waste his time.

The chap that quoted £2.1K seemed to know his stuff, and showed me lots of photos of his work (although I have no way of proving it is actually his work!!), I've got a few nore quotes outstanding, but heis favourite at the moment.

did the everest merchant tell you for what area that price was?
they wont go below that price cause it includes the 500/1000 quid commission for the salesman.
(paid by commission only).
