Bt....must I?

Does anyone know if I have to stay with BT for my land line? I have Sky TV, Broadband and free calls evening weekends. The BT bills are getting higher and higher even though I pay direct debit. Do I have to stay with BT or can I change my supplier just for the line. I am happy with Sky. Appreciate any views, thanks :T

Which company do you pay for your calls?

It sounds to me like you have BT line rental but Sky Talk Freetime for your calls. Sky has been very clever with that and taking Sky Talk Freetime means you're stuck with them for ALL your calls (the 1280 override prefix to route individual calls via BT no longer works) unless you know the workaround of using 18185's freephone gateway number to bypass Sky.

Moving your line rental to Sky as well will save you a pound or so each month but will trap you in even further.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
