How much is too much for one person a week?

Try shopping at different times of day and look out for reduced items that you can freeze, I do at least one early morning and one late evening and always find savings to be had

With regard to olive oil : most chefs agree that you don't always need extra virgin to cook with, only for dressings, etc. So you should buy two lots - one ordinary and one EV. And my local Sainsburys often has deals on olive oil.0

i spend around £10 a week, i buy seasonally , loose veg from markets and usually value ranges
seeing as i dont eat meat or dairy, my main sources of protien are dried lentils, beans and tofu so that keeps costs down too
to me £40 for one person is very extravaggent0 -
After buying this by mistake once we now ALWAYS buy the ASDA frozen smart price chicken breasts, it is cooked from frozen and I brush with EV olive oil and add seasoning, it cooks beautifully.0

i buy four chicken breasts for £3 from iceland. its the only place ive found where you can get a chicken breast for less than a pound so far.0

I used to buy Iceland but switched to Asda value (frozen) and have to admit they cook up lovely! Tried Farm foods chicken breasts but they were really tough and horrid.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I also buy the £4 Asda Value chicken breasts (1kg) or when offer in Sainsburys Valley Foods frozen chicken breasts (£2.99 for 750g when on offer). Chicken breasts are just as good frozen as they are fresh.
I see you buy canned veg - did you know some of them add extra salt and aren't as nutritious as frozen and sometimes fresh veg? I'd avoid it mostly, the only tinned veg I ever buy is sweetcorn!
EV Olive Oil is wasted when cooked with, buy regular olive oil for cooking with there is no difference in taste. If you use EV olive oil for salads then continue on that, but use regular olive oil for cooking. Will save you loads
Do you always buy pork chops? Why not vary your meats or cuts, buy a joint, roast it on a sunday, use left overs for next few days. Check what meat is on offer and buy that.
If you buy this stuff every week don't you get bored of it? Don't you like fish? You can buy cheap white fish in the frozen section (similar to cod) and that is very nice with a jacket potato and salad or peas. Have a look in the reduced section of the supermarket, see what there is and try and it.0 -
Buy the roast chickens from Tesco and Asda when they are reduced to halfprice or less towards the end of the day or after they have been on display for 4 hours. I live alone and easily make a 1.5kg roasted chicken do me 3 meals, especially boiling up the carcass for stock , stew or soup. Sunday afternoon after 2pm is good especially if the weather is foul.:j0

As Arnold Brown would say 'What are you planning to do with the olive oil'?0

I spend £40 a week on food for 3 people, 2 cats and 2 rabbits! I also spend £40 - £60 every 8 weeks on meat from the butchers.
I always buy EV Olive Oil... £2.25 for 750ml at Mr T!
That however lasts a whole month! And that's only if I use TONS to make Hummus... otherwise it lasts longer!!
So I think anything more then £20 a week for 1 person means a lot of expensive goods, and a lot of waste!
Also you don't need to eat meat every day... we can stretch a Chicken so far... I could feed you for a month on one bird (33 portions of food from my last one!) but I bulk with veg!
You should be buying less meat and more frozen/tinned/fresh veg!!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240
