I am spending about £40 a week on myself, what can I cut down on? This does not include eating out, which I do once a week = another £10-£15
Its the fresh meat and olive oil that hurt the most down the supermarket
I will always buy these things below
==========================
Chicken Breasts
Pork Chops
Beef (trying different kinds)
EV Olive Oil (I have a lot of this)
Canned Tomatoes
Rice
Pasta
Herbs
Canned veg
I don't drink alcohol or smoke, and I try to say to myself that food is important so its good to buy nice stuff
Food is the main thing I spoil myself with

I buy my EV Virgin Olive oil in Lidl, along with tin tomatoes and canned veg and find it a lot cheaper.
i also buy fruit and veg from there and dried fruit/nuts etc0 -

Hello
My comments are in Blue
Also have you considered getting a costco card if there is one near you? Good for bulk buying of items0 -
I use Aldi for basics, you could get the olive oil, rice, canned veggies and tomato and pasta from there. They do beef for stewing at £ 2.70 a pack which I can turn into 3 meals with added spices, peppers and rice.Keep calm and carry on0

You say that meat along with the Olive Oil hurts the most .
Do you eat meat everyday? Have you thought about having one or 2 days meat free? Do you throw food away ? Where do you buy your meat from ? Do you shop around ? Do you buy frozen meat ?
Most of the big supermarkets have 3 for £10 offers for meat which would last a single person at least 2 weeks .
A whole chicken would be a better buy than breasts .:)0 -
Aldi also do quite reasonable sirloin steaks for £2.99 (I think).
There don't seem to be any fresh fruit and veg on this list - These would bulk up meals and make them more balanced. The local market is usually the best place to get them, although the Aldi 5 can be good value.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
I think a whole chicken tends to be cheaper than separate pieces and you can easily chop them up or pull them apart into four separate items - two breast pieces and two leg/thigh portions. It means you get the whole 'animal' to make stock from the bones - a huge added bonus.0

You can buy a big whole chicken for about £5.50-£6 then joint it up into freezer portions - will give about 8 meals plus you boil up what's left of it for freezable chicken stock - another three or 4 meals if made into soup with veg and that.0

In overall, you do not spend a lot but then again me and my partner spend about the same for two. However, we grow virtually all vegetables on our own. If you live in a flat you probably do not have the option to grow own vegetables all year round but there are several spices that grow well in pots throughout the year. If you have a balcony or terrace, you can easily grow a tomato plant or two during summer as well.0

How much is too much for one person a week?
If you can afford it then it's not too much! If you want it to be less and it makes you uncomfortable or even unhappy then it's too much!
Also I guess it depends on what you want to get from your food budget. I mean for some people good food is their passion/hobby/treat.
For some people it's about trying new foods or enjoying cooking.
Some want or need to make a budget go as far as possible, for others it's making the food go as far as possible.
Some people have no interest in food and simply want cheap nutritious meals and some just want the most convenient quick easy meals with as little fuss and effort as possible.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I agree with kitschkitty, if you can afford to splurge, enjoy!!
£10 a week does for me... if I coul afford I would go to £20!
As you say its your little treat having nicer things to eat and enjoy, why not!! (long as its affordable for you
