Barclaycard Initial to Gold Upgrade ?

My wife has had an initial Barclaycard now for a few months and always paid in full used it well, now if you use the Barclaycard pre application checker (I know you are not supposed to use it if you already have a Barclaycard) it tells her that she has a 70-80% chance of being accepted for a Barclaycard gold.
So should she ask Barclaycard if they can upgrade her online or just apply for a new card ?.
