Switching from BT to Orange

I wondered if anyone could help.

I am currently 12 months into an 18 month BT line rental contract.
However I would like to end this early and switch to orange (savings outweigh early termination charges).

Does anybody know if I have to contact BT first or if I can simply sign up via orange and they will do the rest?
Also the BT line is currently in my partners name, but I will want the orange line in my name (I already have orange broadband in my name and this would be an upgrade).

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

If the line is not in your name then you can't discuss it with BT anyway. Sign up via Orange, when you have a switch date get your partner to contact BT and cancel the service from that date with them-don't trust Orange to do that.
BT to Horange seems like a very strange move to me though...

    Thanks for your help.

Main reason for switching from BT is the price. Orange line rental is cheaper (£11.50) and combined with the broadband (£7.50) is a much better deal than BT. I am currently paying over £15/month for evening and weekend calls from BT.

Unfortunately I live in one of those areas that cannot get cheap broadband (e.g. plusnet), so choices are limited, hence why I am sticking with orange.

The line rental saving is only 54p a month then. Do you have any LLU options on your exchange?

Hi, very few LLU options, mainly mobile providers such as orange, O2 and talk talk. I dont fancy talk talk as have heard a LOT of bad experiences.

Cant get the cheap service from plusnet and cant get the free broadband from sky. Also cant get virgin cable.

You are right in that the line rental is only around 50p cheaper (when the termination charges are factored in), however the broadband is cheaper if I take the orange phone line (currently pay £10/month for stand alone broadband), this is reduced to £7.50.

    Thanks again.

So if you can get 02 on an LLU basis it is really a no-brainer. That will cost you as little at £8 a month with the mobile discount. And you can add home phone onto that.
02 is consistently rated near the top in all ISP surveys. Horange consistently come near the bottom.
