ESA & Working

HI,

Can anyone please tell me if I work part-time hours (16 per week) which equates to less than 10k pa, can my partner carry on claiming ESA just for himself as he currently claims for me also??

OH is in receipt of DLA, HB and CTC and I am wondering what adjustments would have to be made if I returned to work.

Thanks.

He can carry on claiming but if its income based ESA, he may get very little or none at all if your income is more than the joint ESA amount. If he is on contributions based, he would get the single persons rate.

DLA - no difference as its not income based. Your income would be too low for a change to CTC HOWEVER you WOULD be entitled to WORKING TAX CREDIT with the disability component as your OH gets DLA. In short, you should be reasonably better off by a few grand I'd have thought. HB will be based on the income incl WTC so you may lose that.

Pop the figures into entitledto and see what they come up with.

If he receives contribution based ESA he will still be paid it.

If it is income based ESA your income from working is likely to wipe it out.
