EON demanding £6000

I have a guest house which is also used as our family home. As it's a guest house EON installed a business electricity meter that charges 2 different rates, one rate for day time and the other rate for night time and weekend use.
Regularly they come to read the meter and bill us accordingly.
Unfortunately they have just informed me that they have made a mistake and not been billing me correctly for the past 6 years to the tune of £6000. So I now have a demand to pay this outstanding amount.
Help!!

Well if that's what you owe then that's what you should pay, unless you can somehow dispute the readings.

The only thing you can do is to contact Eon and work out some payment arrangement with them, I think they should be amenable to this considering they've admitted it was their mistake.

Hi raymody - 6 years is the maximum amount of time a supplier can go back to correct billing errors, so it's likely that this error, (Confusion over which reading was the cheap rate and which the dear rate?), occured prior to that.

However you are entitled to detailed bills showing the error correction on each bill over the 6 years that they are claiming for, (24 bills?),and should ask for them to check the claim against your copies of the original bills, which as a business you will still have filed away

    Hi raymody

I'm really sorry we've billed you incorrectly for such a long time.

I would talk to our Business Complaints team and ask for a detailed explanation of how we've now re-calculated your account. Contact details will be on your bills.

Make sure we've re-billed you to the prices applicable when the electricity was actually used. Also ensure we've used all the valid meter readings on file.

As neilmcl says, ask for a payment arrangement to help spread the balance over a more manageable period.

Sorry I can't offer any thing more positive raymody but hope this points you in the right direction.

Raymody,I have had a similar problem but not with Eon,the meter reader transposed the readings and the supplier has advised me that given it was there problem they will not be billing me the 3k i owe them.
