Help - Used Sky digiboxes & Freesat

Hope somebody can help ... all the answers I get on this are from shops / sites trying to sell me a receiver ...

My question is simple hopefully ...

I wish to get Freesat but at lowest cost .. there are lots of old Sky digiboxes about (as others upgrade to Sky+) .. some are for sale (with or without cards) through Ebay (say) ..

My question is whether Sky "block" boxes to prevent use / resale (as the mobile phone operators try to do) or is it as easy as buying an old box & buying a card for £20 from sky ?

I have had a box (From ebay) and a Freesat card (from Sky) for about 3 years now - all working fine. In my opinion/experience it's the cards which Sky lock rather than the boxes.

So if someone tries to sell you a box with a card in - the chances are the card won't work (or might stop working after a month or so)

I nearly bought a card (dubious origins) from Ebay for £35 before I found out that Sky sell them new directly to you for £20.
