You're filling it in now  ... mine gets done somewhere around the afternoon of the 31st January. ;) No, I'm actually more lazy than that, my accountant does it for me.

Now thats fast ... this year, I'm hoping to get it done by summer, instead of *next* January ...
I'm owed over 1.2k, that has focused me a bit ;)

I preferred the Osprey talk than that of the tax man.

accountant fills mine in too usually in January so that I have time to practice my creative writing skills and reasoning :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

So, 7 sleeps till holibobs :j. A week today we'll be on our way. Quite a few people we know will be out there so will be great to catch up with them :D. Will be plotting my permanent move :T.

No more shenanigans on osprey nest, mum and her toyboy seem to be settling down :T.

Tax man hasn't given me refund yet :rotfl:. It will mostly be topping up my regular bills pot as that's gone a bit doolally :o. The remainder will be the start of my (small!) savings pot for retirement. It will, all being well, only be for personal spends till my pension pots are accessible at 55. Everyone else on here is planning their retirement so thought I'd get in on the act, especially as Mr GG will be a man of leisure soon :D.

Actual date of retiring still in the 'very flexible' stage. Will explain all when more concrete stuff to report. I'll be around a while yet though .

    Happy Weds eve everyone :).

According to my other half, an osprey was seen heading North West near Dagenham this morning. Could be heading towards Rutland?

GG - do you invest for retirement outside of your pension - or is it actually savings savings (i.e. cash)?

I've been investing in btl's ed, that for me has been most profitable. If I was younger I'd have put some in funds but it's only in the last few years I've been able to afford proper money :o it's been safer to overpay mortgages (reducing term, not monthly payments so still pay same annual interest which is tax deductible).

Am sure I could have done things differently but it's worked very well and will hopefully let me retire at 54/5. Less than 20 years after marriage broke up and I walked away with a total of 17k, used as deposit on house I lived in (in not a great area) and deposit on btl (in same street). Ok, so Mr GG has matched me (and at times been well ahead :o) but I can't see I would be looking to retire on 25k income from funds (to be fair that does include rental income from own house).

I've been relatively lucky but it's taken some balls

In other exciting news - we have an egg :j:j:j:j

Just to add, for short term savings now I'm probably going to go into premium bonds :money:
