Car On DLA, had 1 year, but need too change can we? Difficult Circumstances...

Hi Everyone, and thankyou for taking the time too read this, i appreciate any guidence or help.
Now in July Last year (sorry new yr now lol, July 2009) We got a Hyundai I30 on dla, as we chose that as we were expecting our 3rd child in the december. And it had biggest boot etc For a buggy, and my Partners wheelchair, and crutches. Our 3rd son was born premature in the October, and Then we moved house etc, christmas, and then my Mum passed away in the july 2010, then on July 12th, 4 days after my mums death, i discovered i was again pregnant, unplanned, Then after Scan discovered i was 20 weeks, much too our shock, she was then born premature at only 25 weeks, In August 20th 2010.
Thankfully she is now well, Though Oxygen dependent, And is now home as of 4 weeks ago. But now we have the problem that we can not all go in the car at one time, and even When we are one child less when he is at school, Aaliyah's Oxygen is too big too fit on the Back seat with 2 other seats for our 16mth old, and almost 3 yr old, Now obviously when we got the car we never planned this, nor expected this, otherwise we would of simply gone for a 7 seater straight up.

As my Partner Is unable too walk, unless with sticks but most of the time he uses his chair so cannot go out alone, so now our car is just parked up un used, Now i was wondering if you knew if there was anyway dla would let you send the car bak early, and swap for a 7 seater, sat a safira, or such??
How would i go about asking, and do you know at all if they allow this under any circumstances, or our car will just be sat for the next 2 years un-used, and having no use too us, and its a huge problem, obviously with the children, and baby being ill.

Do you have any ideas please?? If so i would be gratefull if you could reply, please.
Many thanks
Nikita

hi, i had to change my lease car some years ago, after just a few months, this was for different reasons, i'm sure dla/motability would help you, they are very understanding, just give them a ring and explain about your problems. good luck for future

  • my son enquired about this last summer(2010)was told there is a charge of £100 to end the agreement early, but bear in mind that a 7 seater would probably attract an upfront payment as well, although if you shop around some are offering cashback atm,e.g. our local ford motability dealer is offering £350 cash back
  • Yes they will, i had a ford focus, we then had our 4th child and could not fit in the car, phoned motobility told them our situation and we were able to get a 7 seater had to pay a £250 cancellation fee. If you are on benefits ask about a grant they help towards the down payment we got a Seat Alhambra and they paid the £2000 deposit for us.

contraceptives fail sometimes, give the OP a break. My sister had 2 kids one after the other and didn't know she was pregnant with the second one until she was 7 months gone, it does happen.

Don't be so ignorant. No method of contraception (apart from no sex!) is 100%.

I can confirm DLA will allow you to change the car early, as I was in the same position as you a few months back!

I called them and explained everything and they said there would be a charge of £250!!!!

I just couldn't afford that at the time and said how tight things were, and the very nice lady said she could take it down to £100 but that was as low as she could take it.

I accepted and was allowed to change my car.
