Mine was 2nd eldest of a family of 4 children, with the only girl being the next one down. But she was expected to pick up around the boys !!!

Even after having done about 3 years in the Army and lived alone for years (including owning his own place for 4 years) he still liked to have the shopping and cooking done for him - but had to rethink the cooking one after we moved and he started working nights. He got sick of 'warm up' meals in the middle of the day (when he wanted his cooked meal and I was at work), so started spending a fair chunk of his money (or what was left after his booze) on oven ready meals - and couldn't see that this was basically the same as my leaving him a chilli / bolognese / cottage pie

  • Thanks CW, I'm sure it will need a bit of "tweaking" but hopefully a reasonable start!

  • Dishwasher update : well our family friend Gav came round yesterday i don't know what he did but it seams to have done the trick as it's working :j:j:j we have put a strong dishwasher cleaner ( finish) through it this morning and no problems so we are hopeful it's done the trick which as saved mum some considerable cash outlay!!!

    Have a frugal saturday everyone[/QUOTE]

We all need a Gav in our lives!
  • I have to admit to not reading the last goodness knows how many pages, but think I might have got myself a little confused.

I have downloaded the updated spreadsheet, and entered my spends for this year so far.

I have already used most of my annual allocation of "others" on stocking up with various sale items to be used throughout the year. I have just been through my bank statement to enter the spends, and there are a couple of things, that went out of the bank in December, but would have officially come out of the money I have available to spend in January.

And some of the money I've spent I had available from sources other than my monthly salary (eg Christmas money, savings, etc) so wasn't sure how to record this

But I've entered it anyway, and figure so long as I know where my money is going and I manage to live within my salary (and have money left over) by about March, and then continue in that vein, then it's an improvement on previous years. Any money over and above my salary (be it ebay, cashback, from selling cards etc) is a bonus.

I haven't spent any money out of my purse since Monday, and I haven't bought any food, been using up what's here, so £3.50 is going into my sealed pot savings.

Oh my giddy aunt...so many pages to read, but it's great. I think it really really gives me a boost of inspiration, with all this camaraderie :)
lynzpower thanks so much for the dough recipe. Can never seem to get this right so looking forward to trying yours.
enjoyfinancialchallenges really pleased Poppy is on the mend. We don't half worry over our little furry friends. I love the name Nanny Biscuit, (conjurs up an image of just how nannies should be)
LolaLemon we still make our own coke in icecream. When we were little we got them from the ice cream man they were called coke floats...memories eh?
itsallinthemind the vegan cheats tagine sounds so yummy. Thanks for that. Will be adding to the weeks menu. Your buys at the CC are amazing. Well done. Ooh I bet you feel really chuffed :)
We're out soon to get GD a birthday present. Picked her up a couple of things in the boots sale and will just get her a main present. OH buying. I've posted a parcel today and added to my sig. Can't believe how little spends add up.
Hope everyone has a lovely day today with wise spending :D
