Frugal Living Challenge 2011 - part 1

The thing is that occasionally I go to click on a link for something I want to watch on the Internet - and back comes a message to the effect of "You cant see it - you live in the wrong country". If my computer didnt "know" where I lived then the website I am just trying to view wouldnt "know" either and I would be able to see it okay.Cheryl0

I have a budget for 150 for clothes this year. I know I will definitely need:
Some flat shoes for my job/placement - like ballerinas
2x cardigans for work ( i think I can get away without tops)
black trousers (one pair of)
flip flops in the summer- unless they are cheaper now? maybe!
Good grief Lynz....where are you going to be working...?:D
Sorry - couldn't resist...Anywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!0 -
Hi Everybody,
I apologise in advance if this is a really dumb question, and it sort of is to do with The Frugal Challenge. But everybody here is so friendly I feel safer asking here...anyway.....
I used to live in the UK and had an O2 mobile on contract with BT. I still have the phone but obviously the contract is cancelled. Somebody (sorry, not sure who) mentioned earlier about Tesc* mobiles being on the same (something) as 02, and so my question is, can I go into a Tesco and buy just a PAYG sim card that will then give me airtime and texts for just a month, and use it in my existing cell phone?
Thanks in anticipation, yep I know, I'm a real technophobe :rotfl:
Toodles
ETA: oops I'm anticipating a trip to the UK in February, hence the question.0 -

I think so! But IM waiting like you?!
Ie a tesco sim in a 02 phone means no unlocking... lets see what the answer is:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Depends. 95% of the time yes a O2 sim works in a unlocked Tesco mobile, but not the other way. If the phone is seriously ancient or if you have an iphone the answer is no. However, they do free sim cards https://www.tescomobile-freesim.co.uk/ (order to a relatives?). You would not want to use that one long term though as you do not get the best deal on it, but you would get to see if it works before buying the proper sim. If you give me make and model my friend will probably know as he has useful/useless geeky info in his poor head. Scary man0

Well I managed to not spend anything at Tesco.
There are lots of bargain Christmas cards, wrap and gift bags if anyone is interested.
Erm, quick question, how do you deal with people who think you're made of money? We're going to my SIL's tomorrow night for a meal to celebrate MIL's birthday and SIL said if she does the food can we buy a bunch of flowers from all of us for MIL? DH has already bought MIL a present, plus we sorted out all the food on Boxing Day, SIL did not offer to bring anything then - didn't even bring a bottle! So why should we buy flowers? Sorry if I sound mean.
Also, she's told us that we're going out for a meal to Pizza Express for her son's second birthday later this month. We have the Clubcard Deals vouchers but we wanted to keep them for meals for us two.I think she's been really sneaky as we can't exactly say we can't afford to go. As much as I love my nephew, I just don't think it's necessary to go out for a meal for a two-year-old's birthday.
SIL has been ok lately, but in the past has been a total control freak and it looks like she's back to her old ways. (Doesn't help that I'm a control freak too:rotfl:) But the thing with her is that if you try to reason with her etc she gets worse/lays on emotional blackmail/cries :eek::eek:)

Yes!I am on 02!
Does this mean then that I can just order the sim, pop it in and go?
Ps, yes love petticoat, havent been there for ages. Roman road bow also very good on a saturday or used to be. London markets not sung about enough!
oops sorry lynpower, I didn't realise I'd repeated your question :rotfl:
A little bit of insomnia going on at the moment, obviously it's catching up with me. Sorry

Help!
We have a really weird thing as far as that's concerned. People think on the one hand we have money but on the other hand assume we don't have money. It's hard to explain but it's like split personality. Luckily I have quite a "forceful" personality so people know I'm not going to get sucked into something I don't want to do!
I know it doesn't resolve the issue long term but you could always sign up for the Pizza Express e-newsletter, they send me vouchers all the time for buy one get one free or whatever. So you can have the meal and keep the clubcard voucher for another time. It does sound more like a SIL issue than a money issue - families and celebrations are just plain weird imo.0 -

Hi itsallinthemind,
Thanks for this.
If I said my cell phone is a 'O2 X3', does that sound about right?
I will take a look at the link now, thanks again. :T

Good idea, thanks.I just find it a bit odd to go out for a meal for a toddler's birthday. I thought we'd just be having tea and cake or something! Maybe I am just out of touch lol.
