Im going to have to claim on my house insurance arent I?!!!! !!!!!!!!!
We managed to claim for our repairs, but only because there'd been a lot of high winds for the previous few days - in fact the winds were still in place and delayed the repairs by a couple of daysCheryl0 -

dh says that sounds like water coming down pot so it would be a cowl. some roofers depending on height can drop a cowl in off a ladder. Cheryl is correct not likely to be able to claim off insurance. hope you get it sorted and not too expensive:DMAKE £2022 in 2022 no 29 £2022/£434.10

Hate to say this, but whether you can or not depends on whether the insurance company see it as 'general wear and tear' or 'weather damage'.

OMG really? well whats the bloody point of insurance - argh thats so annoying!! Havent got the money to pay for it ourselves, just no way we can afford it.Frugal living challenge - need to revisit its been.a while !! Need to reduce our debts!!0 -
well done on the financial overhaul Wrenlegs. good luck with all your plans, and keeping the mobile bill down. re Wine & France - Calais is ok but the supermarkets expect it so they are a little more pricy than if your parents can get to Dunkirk, the huge Auchen hypermarket there is amazing. my dad just got very nice Bordeaux on offer at c. 1.50 a bottle! (buy one box of 6, get one free). I didnt notice wine boxes though i'm sure they had them - they did have large plastic containers like what they use here for farm house cider though!![/QUOTE]
Ooh - thanks for the tip off! I reckon the box will last until parents disappear to France so Ill see if they can bag some £1.50 bottle deals as opposed to blast my grocery shop - sounds MUCH better. Every little helps at the mo.:money: Saving money, saving the environment and saving space (aka decluttering) - my motto this year!0 -

if insurance wont pay - we are stuck with a leaky roof! what a disaster!!! Ill have to go up there myself at this rate and try and patch it up - with bin liners or something! I am so out of my depth - what the hell are we going to do!Frugal living challenge - need to revisit its been.a while !! Need to reduce our debts!!0 -

If yours hasn't had anything done to it in recent years but neighbouring properties are having roofing work as part of the renovations, then I very much doubt your insurance company will foot the bill.Cheryl0 -

Good morning everyone
Nothing very exciting to report in the apple_mint household. Put some more diesel in the car yesterday, another £43 hit the dust  However have managed to do a lot of batch cooking over the weekend and so now the freezer contains:
3 spicy sausage casseroles
3 sausage and butter bean casseroles
3 root vegetable and lentil curries and
2 chilli chicken casseroles (we had the third one yesterday for lunch)
More pasties for our packed lunches later in the week
OH made a lovely a lovely batch of white rolls, so we will be having ham & mustard rolls for lunch the first part of the week. I got some packs of sliced ham reduced in Lidl on Friday and I've split the packs and frozen several lots for use in sandwiches later in the month.
I've used up quite a few of my tins of tomatoes, butter beans, kidney beans etc., so I'll need to replenish my storecupboard stocks. However, I'm really pleased at how far I've managed to stretch 2 packets of sausages and a pack of chicken thighsI did feel as though I spent the whole day in the kitchen yesterday!

I think my day has now joint the ranks of your bad day yesterday.
My dh was leaving for work this morning , dd bf car blocking his way so i was moving it, was going slowly and dh thought i had moved and reveresed into his car damaged front wing.cant claim off the insurance because ddbf policy will be loaded next year even with a no fault claim. and as he has only had the car and been driving a couple of months we cant have his insurance going up because of my dh.
so now we have to foot the bill for the wing to be repaired.
any ideas on how much that is likely to be?
dh is such a negative so and so he plans bad days before they even happen then is in such a mood that he plods around and obviously doesnt concentrate properly.
so definately not a frugal day
I have also dug out all my documents because my car is due an MOT this month, car was purchased in 2008 by dh and until today i didnt realise i have MOT cover ,( you pay £40 for mot and some things are covered if they need replacing)
i have had a breakdown cover called eden assist and apparantely is top notch cover.
i have been paying for cover for the last 3 years.
so now only have to get breakdown cover for dh, so moral of story read all documents dh brings in because you may be paying for things that you dont need too, :-(MAKE £2022 in 2022 no 29 £2022/£434.10

Insurance is for the unforseeable things, such as hurricanes, floods and people driving into a house wall (though most - if not all - policies exclude acts of terrorism). All parts of a house suffer from wear and tear, and the home owner is expected to deal with those from their own pocket as and when needed.
If yours hasn't had anything done to it in recent years but neighbouring properties are having roofing work as part of the renovations, then I very much doubt your insurance company will foot the bill.
well my house was supposidly done up before i bought it - job lot - hadnt been lived in for 3yrs then anningtons came bough them done up and sold on - some are still being done. We had 2 stains in that bedroom which were higlighted and the guy said they were old and it had been repaired - i know the wood work in the attic is new so i had assumed everything had been fixed.Frugal living challenge - need to revisit its been.a while !!
