the reservation charge was 50p but that isn't payable until I pick the book up and it's not the type of book I was wanting on the long term i thought i would just sit and copy any recipes i wantEmma :hello:0 -

MIL bought me that book a few years ago. I must admit when I first read it I didn't like it at all, I just didn't get on with the style of writing. Having said that, after a four year break, I decided to take another look at it last year and it's a good book! I haven't tried any of the recipes but I do look at it a lot for tips and inspiration and it's the first book I reach for when I think "could I do x with y..?" So well worth a look, and tbh I don't think it's just for paupers - there are some great recipes in there that would go down well with everyone. It's far from being just about the basics, saving money and eating plain food.0 -

Buying a new iPodI have "withdrawn" £45 from my Sealed Pot for this and if Council Tax doesn't go up then I have an extra £80 in my budget, so that's £125 and therefore I only have £70 to find in my budget for the year. I think that will be achievable. The borrowed one has corrupted itself so it's unusable and I have a four hour train journey to make next week so I think it's needed. I can justify anything!!
Going to have to buy lunch too as I've run out of soup. Bah.
I know some people love their ipods but have you considered getting a non branded generic one? I had one for years before I got my current ipod (v cheap from Amazon as they were changing models) and it was fine for what I needed and only cost £5! No good if you're used to a touch but if you just use if for music they are quite good. There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
Hi everybody,
now this won't be carrying on from your current conversation, I've just popped on to update my signature and read through the posts that I've fallen behind with reading. I'll try and join in when I catch up......I may be some time!

:wave:Hi again everyone:wave:
I posted a few days ago and have been lurking and keeping up with the thread, but it has taken until today to work out my budget. Given up on trying to sort through last years as was making me :mad::( ! Anyway, not including basic things that can not be changed (mortgage, council tax, commuting fares and car parking charges) I have worked out our budget which is £17,500. I am hoping to get this down as, for example, 1200 is purely for emergencies, 2000 is for holiday etc and we have already said we are not sure if we will go this year so we can save a bit moreand
Anyway, am in for the long haul if that is ok :j Strangely excited and looking forward to seeing how much I save!
Cheryl - thank you so much for the spreadsheet - I have downloaded it onto OH's lappy - it is great :T:T:T Have had a fab time putting in all my data and seeing my outgoings appear (especially when I saw that they were lower than my incomings by quite a bit!) Hope the new man is ok and it is nothing serious xxx

Hello:j
Have been reading whenever possible but back at work now.
Have been lucky enough to find a couple more pennies and had 2 nsd last week. The last few days have been a bit more spendy buy are saving money in the long run eg 2 x clearasil for £2 each rather than £2.76 and pens for the small person that cost £3.49 in WHSmith are only £1.50 in Wilko so had a major stock up.
We've still managed to not waste any food since before Christmas- freezer dip tonight with noodles which was very yummy and we cooked up enough chunky chilli in the SC to provide the pie filling that the small person needs for Food Tech tomorrow.
Not a lot spent on entertainment- there's been frugal decluttering, freecycling and decorating going on here using up what I've had lurking. Enjoyed my free starbucks coffee today.

PS I've seen the Gill Holcombe book in The Works on occasion for £3.99. I bought it as a present a few months ago.
