Lap Top freeze on start up-Help!

Lap top freezes when starting up (Windows VISTA). It freezes at the point when the green lines go across the screen. This only started a few days ago since when I have managed on the odd occassion to get full sign on. Could this be a hard disc fault?

if you tap F8 as soon as you power on and choose safe mode from the options - see if it boots up into windows (in safe mode) it it does its likey to be SW related - in this case you have a number of options of how to go forwards - easiest would be to do a system roll back to a few days before the problem started.

I think that Vista is very resource hungry, so it demands that you have enough RAM - I have 4GB as opposed to the original 500MB. My PC used to refuse to start up even when new, until I added the extra memory.

Just fixed ours yesterday, it has always taken 2-3 goes to bootup, so switched from vista to windows 7 and still not booting 1st time .
Found out it was the bios that was not upto the job so updated that and it boots 1st time this was on an Acer Aspire 7720.
Very easy to do and so glad to get rid of Vista .
