sw, i know its none of my business but just curious how often you are meant to do your tests... and if you dont do them then cant you just feel that youre going to have a hypo anyway or is it too late by that time?
ive been told its more than likely i'll get diabetes in the next few years, apparently im borderline already. but i know almost nothing about the illness except that its to do with the insulin which can be controlled by diet.
by the way I think its great that youve got friends who remind you to eat or have a test.

I am glad she is drinking unaided now sorry about her breathing still. I hope the antibiotics work. She must be so weak.

She is very weak, but still cheerful. She doesn't have the strength to cough up any phlegm, poor thing. The top section of the bed is raised as she is supposed to be quite upright, but she just slides down the mattress until her feet hit the bottom of the bed frame, or sometimes stick through the bed frame. she also has a tendancy to slouch to her left side, so we are forever hauling her upright and up the bed, which is difficult. Although she is tiny (only 6 1/2 stone when admitted but less now) it is still hrd to do, and you can feel all her bones sticking through

P.S. lost this post once already

Hello puddings, I do them 5 times a day mininum but have extras if i am feeling a bit peculiar. You do have awareness that you are having a hypo sometimes other times you are so low your brain doesn't function and recognise it and you get a bit wiped out. I am insulin dependant and have been for a loooooong time since 1974 (yep am that ancient). My fingers look like pin cushions and they hurt so i cant always do blood tests when i want to unfortunately. Sometimes i guess i am ok and of course, that's when they go funny. Have you met Worried Jim he is a diabetic and there are some really nice people on his thread that can help. I think there is a nice lady called Jo too.

You can prevent the likelihood by eating a low sugar diet and walking regularly - sounds like you are doing it anyway so hopefully you wont get it.

Ok thanks SW. No ive not met worried jim or jo, it might seem compacent but i'll just deal with the ins and outs of it when (or if) it happens.
Is there a reason the tests are on the ends of your fingers? its just a drop of blood thats needed isnt it? considering that the ends of fingers get a lot of use/pressure etc and there are bits of body that are (relatively speaking) just for show - backs of the forearms for example - then cant you give your fingers a rest and try elsewhere?

I'm not doing a formal diet. I go to a dietician. Classes like slimming world arent for me! I went to wwatchers a while ago, the room was full of women all looking like they need to lose a stone or two. I was the only bloke there and needed to lose more like 12 stone. I just didnt fit in! So now i go it alone so to speak :-)

I think you can. But it would hurt too much. I am less than 8 stone and i keep moaning about my !!! but in reality i bruise quickly and am not big. I would look like a right freak with needle marks on my arms. I dont want to look like i am in Trainspotting you know. People are pretty insensititve and i would get upset if i had any bruises that were visible. I get tired and fall a lot so i usually have bruises anyway. I dont want any more.

    Just texted you SW ;);)

It is funny isn't it, how a chance post on a thread can lead to such great friendships :j :j I had advised someone on their thread and then SW caught the thread and started posting, and then we met up to visit the person from the thread in hospital when she broke her hip - Mr 3Dogs came with me too, so he met SW at the same time ..................... and the rest is history :j :j :j :j I took it upon myself to text her every night when I realised what a difference it made :D

It is nicer when you are in a group. It is more motivating and the hard work is shared. Susan can you offer any advice? (She is very good and has won awards for her slimming).

    Is your dietician good?
