as i would have run some bottled water to them for him to use for drinking and washing purposes
If you have a car, then some larger containers should allow them to flush the loo.
Being pragmatic I'd try to borrow some larger containers from family and friends and drive some water to them, rather than run the risk of loosing the job.
I'm not saying that's morally right, but that's what I'd do in practice.

So would you go out and replenish the supplies at 2am in the morning?

Ideally I'd try and take in enough to start with (and tell him not to flush the number 1's :)), but if it meant my partner keeping his job, then yes, I'd get up at 2a.m.
We are only talking about 12 hours here, not 12 weeks.
There's a limit to how many number 2's and how many drinks you can have in that time.

I am not saying the employers are not wrong.
They are definietly totally out of order and that's something I'd want to address, however walking off the job when there is a simple solution and a partner with a car, seems inflexible to me.

Or how about they pay for an emergency plumber to come out and fix the pipe so the water can be turned back on? There are workable solutions but as usual employer doesn't want to pay out. It's the manager's responsibility so they needed to have sorted it properly. If anyone needs to be dismissed it's them as if site security is so important then they'd make sure basic health and safety was met so that the site could be manned 24/7!

If he were to be sacked he'd have a claim in an ET as HSE matters are protected so you can take those to an ET regardless of time served. His suggestion of a portaloo and bottled water is more than reasonable.

How do you know they didn't try & get hold of a plumber?

How do you know they didn't try & hire a portaloo?

Do you know how busy they are at the moment? Do you know that not many of them want to do any extra work around this time of year?

How do you even know it is not a problem outside of the business owners control & not the landlords problem who they rent the premises off of?

But yet still. Its down to the "business" to magic up a solution instead of the employee using a little common sense also.

If he needs the loo he can go by a bush or leave the premises when they send someone to cover.

Bottled water & kettle for the rest.

Go by a bush??!! Hes a human being not an animal. I never fail to be surprised and shocked by what is expected of employees. If he is expected to go to the toilet outside like an animal, well not all animals bother to find bushes. If its a number twos do it in plain sight and then leave the evidence there for all to see as evidence of a negligent, tight employer. !!!!!! what a stupid suggestion.

What is stupid is your response.

He is a security guard & his job is to secure.

If his employers have done all they can & I would put money on his employers not being the owners of the building he still has a duty & a role to perform.

Or do you suggest he just !!!!!! off & leave it all open to a thief or two?

    !!!!!! what a stupid suggestion.

    Some roles have responsibilities.

Obviously they have not or this issue would not have arisen.

His employers have a duty of care which it appears they are failing to carry out.

    .

Obviously you have no experience of anything like this & do not know what you are talking about.

Have you any idea what has been happening in the UK to do with water?

Of course we have. Its been all over the news. The fact that it is a disgrace is the reason WHY it has been all over the news!

His employer has a very clear responsibility to provide clean water and toilet facilities.

Personally I would leave this sorry a**ed company and go and join another, if you have a SIA badge you are in demand
